Patio Pouring Near Me? Choose the Finish for Texas Heat First

Normal summer highs at Camp Mabry, the area's long-record weather station, run in the mid to upper 90s (NWS Austin/San Antonio). A bare west-facing slab soaks that up all afternoon, so the first patio decision here is surface and color, not pattern:

The simplest finish and the coolest underfoot when left light gray. Best value under a cover.

Scored Concrete Patio Layouts

Every slab cracks somewhere; joints decide where. On a scored concrete patio we turn that into the design: saw-cut or tooled lines in a grid, a diamond, or a border that frames the seating area. Panels stay roughly square and no more than about 10 feet on a side for a 4 inch slab, and the lines line up with inside corners, where cracks like to start.

Keep the New Patio Below the Weep Line

This one gets missed on Cedar Park additions. Brick veneer has weep holes at the bottom course, and stucco has a weep screed. The 2021 International Residential Code, which Cedar Park enforces with local amendments (City of Cedar Park, Building Permits & Inspections), wants a stucco weep screed at least 2 inches above paved areas (IRC R703.7.2.1). Pour a patio up to the threshold and you can bury the weeps, trapping water in the wall. We set the slab a step down, or detail a drain at the wall, before anything gets poured.

Deck Patio Builders: Covered Patios and Pergola Footings

Most pergola patio builders and cover framers expect the concrete to be ready for them. If a pergola or patio cover is coming later, say so now. Posts need footings, not just a 4 inch slab, and it's far cheaper to pour them with the patio than to cut them in afterward. On rocky lots we may drill instead of dig; your estimate shows which and what it adds.

Steps and Walkway Tie-Ins

Most patios meet a door threshold and a walk somewhere. If a path needs to connect the patio to the driveway or side gate, the walkway page covers slope and joints.

Deck Patio Contractor Questions

How far should a patio slope?

About a quarter inch per foot, away from the house. Enough to shed water without your chairs rocking.

Can you pour around an existing pool?

Yes. We protect the coping, set an expansion joint where the deck meets the pool, and use a finish that's easier on bare feet in August.

Do you build wood decks too?

No. We're concrete and masonry. If you want a wood deck, a deck builder or carpenter is the right call, and we're happy to pour the footings or a slab next to it.

What does a pressed concrete patio cost?

Pressed or stamped patios cost more than broom finish because of the color, the stamping crew and the sealer. Size, shape and access for the truck matter just as much. You'll get both prices on one estimate if you're deciding between them.

Can you repair my existing concrete patio?

Often. Settled panels, cracked edges and worn surfaces can be fixed, and a sound but tired patio can be resurfaced. See concrete repair.

Want a pattern? See stamped concrete patios.
