Price a Masonry Job
Cedar Park was a limestone town before it was a suburb. Local quarries shipped building stone from the 1890s until about 1970 (TSHA). Stone masonry here isn't a trend, and new work should sit comfortably next to the old.
Stone and Brick Masonry Services
Cut or chopped limestone, or manufactured stone, over a house wall, a retaining wall core or a planter. The details that matter are the moisture barrier, the lath and the weep screed at the bottom. Skip them and water gets trapped behind the stone.
Garden and seat walls, entry columns and mailbox pillars, set on a poured concrete footing. Because we pour our own footings, the masonry and the concrete get built as one job, not handed between two crews.
Cracked or loose brick from settlement or impact. We find and fix the cause first. A stair-step crack can mean the foundation moved, and we'll tell you when that's a job for a foundation specialist instead of us.
Grinding out eroded mortar joints and repacking them with mortar matched in color and strength, so the joint wears first instead of the stone or brick.
Masonry Questions
Can you match the brick on my 1990s house?
Often close, rarely perfect. Brick runs change color from batch to batch, so we bring samples to the wall and check them in daylight before ordering. Sometimes the cleanest answer is to use the old brick on the face you see and the new brick where it's hidden.
Is natural limestone or manufactured stone better?
Natural limestone lasts practically forever and matches the older stone around Cedar Park. Manufactured veneer is lighter and costs less to install, but it depends on the moisture barrier and weep screed behind it. We'll quote both if you're undecided.
Do you repoint old mortar?
Yes. We grind out the failed joints and repack them with a mortar that is no harder than the stone or brick, so the mortar wears first instead of the masonry.
Building a retaining wall? See retaining walls, which can be faced in stone.
